Al-Jazeera crew, Australian reporter detained in Egypt

Al-Jazeera crew, Australian reporter
detained in Egypt
on december 31, 2013 at 6:02 pm in news
CAIRO (AFP) – Egyptian authorities Tuesday
ordered an award-winning Australian journalist and
two other reporters working for Al-Jazeera
television detained for two weeks on suspicion of
“disturbing public security,” a judicial source said.
They were arrested on Sunday amid a widening
crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood of ousted
president Mohamed Morsi, which the military-
installed government declared a “terrorist” group
last week.
Al-Jazeera has identified them as Cairo bureau
chief Mohamed Adel Fahmy — a dual Egyptian-
Canadian citizen — Australian reporter Peter Greste
and producer Baher Mohamed.
Cameraman Mohamed Fawzi, who was also
arrested on Sunday, has since been released.
Prosecutors accused the crew of “working in
violation of the law, filming sovereign institutions,
and airing videos aimed at disturbing peace and
public security,” the source said.
The detention can be extended, and they can be
referred to trial if charges are brought against them.
The team was also accused of having maps of
Egyptian military installations on their laptops and of
working for the channel despite its licence being
cancelled by the authorities, the sources added.
The four were arrested at their makeshift office in a
Cairo hotel.
Greste, a former BBC journalist, won the prestigious
Peabody award in 2011 for a documentary on
Somalia.
Qatar, which hosts and funds Al-Jazeera, was a big
supporter of Morsi before his overthrow by the
army in July last year.
To the fury of the military-installed interim
government, it has been an outspoken critic ever
since.
On Tuesday, Al-Jazeera expressed outrage at the
crew’s detention.
“It is outrageous to be treating bone fide journalists
in this way,” said Al-Jazeera English managing
director Al Anstey.
“The allegations that are being made are totally
false and unfounded. We operate in Egypt legally.”
The team had been working on stories showing the
situation in Egypt, he said, adding that each member
of the team “has huge experience carrying out the
highest quality journalism with integrity”.
Other Al-Jazeera reporters remain in detention,
including Abdullah Elshamy of the Arabic language
station arrested on August 14 when police
dispersed an Islamist protest camp in Cairo, killing
hundreds in clashes.
The government declared the Brotherhood a
“terrorist organisation” last week after a suicide car
bombing of a police headquarters killed 15 people.
It blamed the attack on the Brotherhood which the
movement condemned, while an Al-Qaeda-inspired
group claimed responsibility for it.
On Monday, media watchdog the Committee to
Protect Journalists said Egypt came third for the
number of journalists killed on the job in 2013, after
Syria and Iraq.
“Amid stark political polarisation and related street
violence, things deteriorated dramatically for
journalists in Egypt, where six journalists were
killed for their work in 2013,” the CPJ said.
Three were killed on August 14 as they were
reporting on the police crackdown on Morsi’s
supporters in Cairo.
The CPJ said that since 1992 it has documented the
deaths of 10 journalists for their work in Egypt —
nine of them since the uprising against Hosni
Mubarak erupted in 2011.

The letter writing politics has reached
Northern Nigeria as a strong member of
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region
Engr. Umar Gana wrote Vice President Namadi
Sambo an open letter.
In this document the official cautions Mr.
Sambo to wake up from slumber and save
crumbling PDP in the North. Additionally, he
urges Vice President to tackle serious issues
as the region slips away to rival All
Progressive Congress (APC).
Sahara Reporters claim to have obtained a
copy of the letter dated 9th December, 2013,
from a prominent member who chairs a
leading Federal Government agency in Abuja.
According to the information provided, the
letter was addressed to Sambo was copied to
National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga
Tukur, Chief Tony Anenih chair PDP Board of
Trustees and President Goodluck Jonathan
through his Chief of Staff.
Gana openly accuses Sambo of his inability of
addressing the creeping collapse of the PDP in
the North West Zone and Kaduna State, which
he draws immediate attention of Jonathan in
view of its being the largest and most
populated zone in the country with 28% to 30%
of entire voters in the country going by 2011
figures.
The official was also quoted in the open letter
as mentioning that, Governor Mukhtar Yero of
Kaduna state has skewed misunderstanding of
the dangers ahead in their home state of
Kaduna, saying,
“To me, there is a crucial need for collective
concerted efforts to salvage the situation.
Otherwise, giving our past ugly experience, we
have no alternative than either to join the APC
or flee for our dear lives, including the lives of
the members of our immediate and extended
families.”

LASU: ASUU threatens strike

LASU: ASUU threatens strike
on december 31, 2013 at 9:52 am in news
*Student of the Lagos State Univesity protesting
hike in school fees
Dr Adekunle Idris, Chairman, Academic Staff Union
of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University, Ojo
(LASU) chapter, on Monday called on the State
Government to urgently address some burning
issues in the institution.
Briefing journalists in Lagos, Idris urged the state
government, university council and management to
address the lingering issues to forestall looming
crises.
He said that the ASUU congress in the university
had mandated the executive committee to explore
avenues of dialogue to resolve the contending
issues.
The union leader, however, said that they may be
forced to declare an industrial action if the dialogue
with the government failed to achieve the desired
result.
Shedding light on the issues at stake, Idris said that
the state government had not implemented the
Universities Miscellaneous Provision Act 2012 in
LASU.
“This law was passed by the Federal Republic of
Nigeria for effective running of universities and we
were part of ASUU /FG 2009 agreement.
“One of the provisions of the agreement is that
academic staff on professional cadre shall retire at
age 70 and non-academic staff at 65.
“It also says that principal officers shall serve for a
single term of five years,” he said.
Idris said that the state government had, during a
deliberation with the institution’s four unions on Dec.
31, 2010, promised to implement the agreement but
failed to do so.
According to him, the government also made some
promises to the union at a meeting held on Nov. 29
but has yet to keep them.
“The union had consistently called on all the
stakeholders of the institution to intervene and
resolve the pending issues in LASU during the five
and a half months ASUU strike,” he said.
Idris also urged the government to review the tuition
fees in the university, noting that it had become the
most expensive public university in Nigeria, making
it unattractive to applicants.
“The 1416 candidates who applied for the
2013/2014 Post-UTME used to be just two arms of
the accounting department when the fees were
N25,000.
“There is an assurance that the number of
candidates short-listed for admission will drop
when some of them finally know the total amount
they will be paying.
“It is exorbitant for a student in the faculty of
education to pay N197,000 while other departments
pay N250,000 and the medical students pay
N350,000.
“The founding fathers meant that education should
be made available and affordable to all citizens of
Nigeria especially indigenes of Lagos State but the
current school fees has defeated that objective,” he
said.
Idris noted that the Senior Staff Association of
Nigeria Universities (SSANU), LASU chapter had
been on strike since Sept. 29, while the non-
academic staff suspended theirs on Dec. 3. (NAN)

Alas! Fathia got her name changed

Actress,
Fathia
Balogun
has
changed
her
surname
from
Balogun to
Williams on her Instagram page.
Although her twitter account still bears Balogun.
It would be recalled that there were reports of
fathia's ex-husband, Nollywod actor/producer,
Saheed Balogun dragging her to court over the use
of his surname.
He was quoted as saying “She is my ex. As for my
name that she is still answering, the deed will be
done soon. The Nigerian law says that after three or
four years, you can do something about it. If
somebody wants to keep my name, what of the new
person coming in? This has nothing to do with
grudges.”
Fathia however replied her ex-husband, Saheed
saying, “I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it’s
going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change
that and nobody can stop me from answering that
name.”
Well looks like Fathia might be having a change of
mind.

SHOCKER: Speaker Aminu Tambuwal Dumps PDP for APC

The
negative
fortune of
the ruling
Peoples
Democratic
Party,
PDP, is
set to
deem even further as the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal is set to
formally decamp to the leading opposition party in
the country, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Speaker’s decision came as a shock to the
leadership of PDP, who earlier in December had
extracted a word of commitment from the House
leaders that member’s defection will no longer be
tenable.
National Mirror gathered that the Sokoto State
chapter of the APC has mandated its Tambuwal
Local Government chapter to formally present a
membership card to the Speaker who has been
asked by the state Governor, Aliyu Wamakko to
formally declare his stand.
It was gathered, however, that Tambuwal would
retain his seat as Speaker due to the numerical
strength of the opposition party as soon as he
decamps from the PDP and join the APC in January.
It will be recalled that the defection of some
members of the House of Representatives elected
on the platform of the ruling party into APC has
brought the number of the federal lawmakers of the
opposition party to 172. The PDP presently has 171.
The likely defection of Tambuwal will further alter
the equation in favour of APC in the House, with its
membership increasing to 173, with PDP coming
down to 170.
More PDP members in the House are also planning
to join Tambuwal as soon as he declares for APC.
A source in Tambuwal's camp confirmed the move
by saying:
"Mr. Speaker... is set to tap the numerical strength
of APC in the House to retain his seat. The defection
of Mr. Speaker is going to alter the political equation
in the House substantially because many other
members of the House are likely to join him to move
to APC.
“The speaker has made up his minds and he has
perfected the strategies with the leaders of APC and
he is not likely to go into APC alone as some of his
colleagues in the House have also decided to follow
him into the opposition party."
2014 is going to be the year of real politics...!

New Regent of Akure installed

New Regent of Akure installed
on december 30, 2013 at 1:00 am in news
*The new regent, Princes Adetutu Adesida Ojei
By DAYO JOHNSON
AKURE —  A new regent, Princes Adetutu Adesida
Ojei was yesterday installed to fill the stool of the
Deji of Akure which became vacant on December 1,
this year.
Princes Ojei, after the installation, assured all sons
and daughters of Akure that she was ready for the
big task ahead with God on her side.
Meanwhile, the family of the battered wife of the
deposed Oba, Prince Oluwadare Adesina, Olori
Bolanle, who is now late, has appealed to the state
government and the council of chiefs in Akure to
consider his reinstatement appeal.
The
battering of late Bolanle by the deposed monarch on
May 30, 2010, lead to his removal and banishment
on June 10, 2010 by the state government.
However, the occupier of the stool that was vacant
on December 1, the late Oba Adebiyi Adesida, joined
his ancestors after reigning for three years and
three months.
Princes Ojei, a pharmacist based in the United
Kingdom, is the first female child of the late Oba
Adesida.
Speaking with newsmen after her installation, the
regent said it was a privilege to step into her
father’s shoes.
She, however, promised to continue where her
father stopped in his effort to bring development to
the town.
The regent said it was an open secret that the
development witnessed during her father short
reign is unprecedented in the history of the town.
Development to Akureland
She said: “I promise that during my short reign I will
bring further development to Akureland. We are all
witnesses to what happened during my father’s
reign.
“Akureland witnessed unprecedented development
and I will, by the special grace of God, do more.
She pleaded with the king-makers to seek the face
of God in their selection of a new oba for the town.
Princes Ojei added that they should hasten the
selection process to enable her continue with her
life after the selection and installation of another
oba.
Bolanle’s family wants deposed Oba’s
reinstatement
Meantime, the deposed Oba, Prince Adesina last
week wrote a letter to the state government and
Akure Council of Chiefs pleading for reinstatement.
But the family of High Chief Ojumu Fadeyi of Owo,
from where the late Olori Bolanle came from, in a
statement said both families have since reconciled
and viewed the incident of 2010 as blown out of
proportion.
According to the statement, signed by the Head of
the family, Chief Akinola Fadeyi and its Secretary,
Mr. Olanrewaju Fadeyi, the family said it was aware
of the letter written to the state government by
Adesina and agreed with the content of the letter
pleading for his reinstatement as the Deji of Akure.
It said: “We have read the said letter from the print
media and we have also heard the comments on the
letter from the public domain, particularly media
discourse on same.
“We are particularly touched by the frank, honest
and humble content of the said letter.
“We are more touched by the gestures of
forgiveness, godliness and love extended to our
daughter even in her death and the dignity with
which her memory has been treated by her
husband.
“Our family has considered all the issues that
ensued before, during and after the deposition and
banishment of our in-law, Oba Oluwadare Adepoju
Adesina, and we, by this forum (as we had done on
many occasions before), appeal to Governor
Olusegun Mimiko and the good people of Akure to
please consider the appeal of our in-law.”
“We have since reconciled our differences and it is
our belief that rescinding the orders of deposition
and banishments would be more in tandem with the
wishes of our late daughter – Olori Bolanle Adesina
nee Fadeyi – who practically went about pleading
with all that mattered for her husband’s
reinstatement before her death.”
“It is our belief that reinstating our in-law to his
position as the Deji of Akure will be a rare honour
done to our family and the memory of our daughter

Stella Damasus steps out with Daniel Ademinokan

The Lagos
State
Government
on Sunday
said it had
spent
N1billion
as support
to at least
400 graduate farmers to set up their own farms.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Co-operatives,
Prince Gbolahan Lawal said the beneficiaries were
those trained under the state’s Agricultural Youths
Empowerment Scheme (AGRIC-YES).
“The support is to give them a headstart in their
farming businesses. We are currently operating a
modern farm settlement scheme in Araga, Epe area
of Lagos, where graduates are trained in different
areas of agriculture under our AGRIC-YES
programme.
“No fewer than 400 graduates, divided into four
groups, are being exposed to practical and
sustainable ways of practising aquaculture, poultry
and crop cultivation, among others, using modern,
fully automated equipment,” he said.
The commissioner said that the essence of the
programme was to create a generation of modern
farmers, while creating job opportunities and
promoting food security.
“In the last one year, the state government has
spent more than N1billion in form of inputs, tractors,
cash and other essentials, to enable the graduates
set up their own farms,” he said.
Lawal said that the programme was fully residential,
adding that the government only recently
inaugurated 200 units of two-bedroom apartments
at the programme site, to improve the living
standards of participants.
He said that the state government was committed to
the food security of the state, saying that AGRIC
YES was one of the efforts of government to
demonstrate that.
Lawal noted that Lagos was a top producer of
poultry and that the government was assisting
farmers to boost poultry production.
“Maize is one of the major ingredients used in
poultry feed mill and in order to ensure that farmers
have all year supply of this ingredient for their
animals, the government sells directly to them at
subsidised prices.
“We have a poultry estate in Erikorodo in Ikorodu
and the government is upgrading facilities and even
providing more to boost production,” “he said.
Lawal said that government was also assisting
fishermen in coastal communities of Ojo, Badagry
and other parts, with boats and other inputs needed
in their fishing business.
The Commissioner added that the state government
had recently acquired land in Osun and Abuja for
livestock and crop production.

Jets With N1.52Bn - Punch
Culled from Punch
The Federal Government has budgeted
N1.52b for the maintenance of the 10 aircraft
currently in the Presidential Air Fleet in 2014.
The maintenance cost is slightly higher than
the N1.5bn proposed as the initial deposit for
the purchase of additional aircraft that will
bring the number of aircraft in the fleet to 11.
This is apart from the N747m earmarked for
the purchase of aviation fuel for the aircraft
already in the fleet.
These figures are contained in the details of the
2014 Appropriation Bill presented to the National
Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan through
the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,
penultimate week.
The government has also earmarked N458.5m for
international trainings for the fleet’s personnel in
the coming year.
Another chunk of the budget for the fleet is the
N675.9m budgeted for the rehabilitation/
renovation/repairs of PAF Barracks.
A whopping N405.5m is also proposed for the
completion of a hangar project under the PAF
budget for the year while N106m is earmarked for
tyre bay tools and equipment.
The PAF’s security vote (including operations) is
N259.55m; insurance premium — N445.7m; as
well as cleaning and fumigation services —N58m.
N71.74m is budgeted for 797 units of LG 2HP air

earmarked for three units of Toyota Coaster buses
and N26.4m for four units of Toyota Hilux.
Motor vehicle fuel will gulp N29.6m, other

courier services — N15m; medical expenses —
N12m; corps members kitting, transport and
feeding allowance N3.7m and honorarium and
sitting allowance — N3.6m.
PAF is said to have the third largest fleet of aircraft
in the country with a total of 10 aircraft, coming
closely behind Aerocontractors Airlines, which has
a total of 14 aircraft.
Arik Air, the largest commercial airline in the
country, has a fleet of 23 aircraft.
The PAF include two Falcon 7X jets, two Falcon
900 jets, Gulfstream 550, one Boeing 737 BBJ
(Nigerian Air Force 001 or Eagle One), and
Gulfstream IVSP.
Others are one Gulfstream V, Cessna Citation 2

Guru Maharaji predicts Eagle's victory in 2014

He made
this
known to
Daily
Independent
at his
Spiritual
Village,
Ibadan,
the Oyo State capital, while speaking on plans to
mark his spiritual birthday on January 1, 2014.
Maharaj Ji was determined speaking about it:
"I have said it and nothing will change it. If the
Super Eagles handler, Stephen Keshi, shows more
love to Maharaj Ji, the true name of the Almighty.
He will lead the team to victory that will shock the
world.
"I want him and top shots of the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) to visit Maharaj Ji Village and let
us have a discussion. Let them come and put
Maharaj Ji’s power to test. I cannot be here and
Nigeria won’t be able to conquer the world.
"I told them before that Eagles will win the Nation’s
Cup and so it was. The powers of Chukwujekwukwu
will touch the players again and they will have
strength to run faster as children of the light than
any other team at the tournament. Nigerians should
come and avail themselves of the opportunity of the
power now.
“Keshi should humble himself more. I foresee the
cup coming to Nigeria in 2014. Nigerians should
stop doubting because the Living Perfect Master is
talking. I think by now government in its own
wisdom would have shown appreciation to me for
the victory of Eagles at the last Nation’s Cup. They
should know that it is only by encouraging me that
they receive more."
The Spiritual Leader proceeded:
"The players, particularly the goal keeper, should
avoid wearing blue jersey which was one of the
things that caused initial problems for the team
during the Nation’s Cup before an NFF top shot got
across to me to intercede. Blue is the colour of
mermaid. That is not ideal for any progressive
development.
"I have said it loud and clear that the cup is within
reach and definitely it will come to Nigeria if the
sports administrators and the coaches take the
advantage. I cautioned Samson Siasia, the former
Eagles’ handler, but he retorted saying ‘is Satguru
God’? That affected him and he was booted out.
"However, not only the Super Eagles, tell other
national teams to come and receive the power to
excel and it shall be well with them at any
tournament,”he assured.

Bomb near Egypt intel building wounds four soldiers

Bomb near Egypt intel building wounds
four soldiers
on december 29, 2013 at 4:47 pm in news
A bomb near an army intelligence building wounded
four soldiers Sunday, the third such blast within a
week after the Muslim Brotherhood’s designation as
a terrorist organisation further polarised Egypt.
The explosion, which the army called a “cowardly
terrorist” act, comes as the military-installed
authorities plan to hold a referendum on a new
constitution next month, the first step towards
democracy since the ouster of Islamist president
Mohamed Morsi in July.
Sunday’s blast in Sharqiya province in the Nile
Delta destroyed the rear compound wall of the
intelligence building, the army said, adding that four
soldiers were wounded.
It was the third such attack in less than a week.
Another was averted on Sunday when experts
defused a bomb near the front gate of Al-Azhar’s
medical faculty in New Damietta city north of Cairo,
security officials said.
On Tuesday, a suicide car bomber killed 15 people
at a police building in Mansoura, north of the capital.
And on Thursday, a bomb in Cairo wounded five
people on a bus.
The Mansoura attack, one of the deadliest since
Morsi’s ouster, triggered widespread outrage.
A day after that attack, which was claimed by Al-
Qaeda-inspired jihadists, the authorities accused
the Brotherhood of perpetrating it and listed the
Islamist movement to which Morsi belongs as a
“terrorist organisation”.
But the Brotherhood, which prevailed in all elections
since the ouster of strongman Hosni Mubarak in
early 2011, said it is “innocent of any violent
incident that has (been) or will be committed”.
Designating the Brotherhood as a terrorist group is
a hardening of the government position in its
ongoing crackdown on Morsi’s Islamist supporters.
It means hundreds of thousands of Brotherhood
members now face prison sentences if they hold
demonstrations or are found in possession of the
movement’s recordings or literature.
The designation also means Brotherhood leaders
currently on trial face possible death sentences if
found guilty.
On Sunday, police in the Mediterranean city of
Alexandria arrested three people, including two
minors, after they searched a printer’s and found
propaganda material backing the Brotherhood and
opposing the security forces.
The crackdown on Morsi’s supporters since the
army ousted him on July 3 has seen more than
1,000 people killed and thousands of his backers
arrested.
But the Brotherhood has still held demonstrations
across Egypt, especially over the past three days,
with at least seven people killed in clashes between
Morsi’s supporters and opponents.
Universities also saw severe unrest this week, and
on Saturday a 19-year-old student was shot dead
at Al-Azhar’s Cairo campus, where pro-Morsi
students have staged regular protests.
The students entered the commerce faculty of the
university during an exam and set it alight, before
police burst into the campus and fired tear gas.
A police official said 101 students were arrested
and the fire on the first two floors of the building
was brought under control.
The violence came a day after five people were
killed in clashes across Egypt, as police stamped
down hard on Brotherhood demonstrations.
On Sunday, student Brotherhood backers torched
an exam hall at Al-Azhar University, security
officials said, adding that 27 “rioters” were arrested.
The interim authorities have decapitated the 85-
year-old Brotherhood, imprisoning Morsi and most
of the movement’s leadership and putting them on
trial for allegedly colluding with militants.
More than 100 soldiers and policemen have been
killed in the Sinai since Morsi’s ouster.
Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Morsi
ruled for just one turbulent year before the military
overthrew him following mass protests demanding
his resignation.

University to make Igbo language compulsory course for all students

University to make Igbo language
compulsory course for all students
on december 29, 2013 at 3:31 pm in news
Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike, Director, Igbo
Renaissance at the Gregory University, Uturu
(GUU), Abia, said on Saturday that the university
would soon introduce the Igbo language as a
compulsory course in the second year.
Madubuike announced this at Uturu during the 6th
edition of the Igbo (Uturu) Cultural Carnival, which
held at the university.
“By the next two years, the university plans to
introduce the Igbo language as a compulsory
subject for all students in the second year.
“Whether you are Yoruba, Hausa or Efik, you must
take Igbo as a compulsory subject, in spite of your
area of specialisation,’’ he said.
Madubuike described the Igbo language as the
‘’soul of the culture of Ndigbo,’’ adding that the
disappearance of the language would mean the
ultimate death of the culture.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra state,
Igwe Laz Ekwueme, called for concerted efforts by
people of the South-East to save the Igbo language
from going extinct.
Ekwueme, who was the chairman of the carnival,
expressed regret that the Igbo language was under
serious threat, due to the decline in its usage as a
means of communication in various families.
He noted that many families of Igbo origin preferred
to communicate in foreign languages, especially the
English language, with their children.
“More often, nowadays, you find many parents
communicating with their children and relations in
the English language, rather than the Igbo
language,’’ he said.
Ekwueme regretted that the development was
capable of endangering the Igbo language, if not
promptly checked.
The monarch, who was a former Minister of
Education, commended the Chancellor of the
University, Dr. Greg Ibe, for initiating the carnival.
“Anything that is done to encourage the sustenance
of the Igbo language and culture would be
encouraged,” he said.
Ekwueme noted that the event would add value to
similar efforts designed to re-establish and
reinforce the Igbo culture.
He urged governors in the zone to rally support
toward the sustenance of the culture and the
language of Ndigbo by identifying with the carnival.
Prof. Barth Chukwuezi, a director in the National
Commission for Museums and Monuments,
expressed delight that the Igbo cultural heritage and
artefacts could be found in abundance in Uturu.
Chukwuezi, who is the Head, Educational Services
and Training, said that the commission often
encouraged the people to communicate in their
native languages during its outreach programmes.
He noted that the Igbo language ranked among the
few native languages in the country facing serious
threats of possible extinction and called for urgent
steps to stem the tide.
“Once a people’s language and culture go extinct,
then the people literally cease to exist,’’ Chukwuezi
said.
He advised parents to encourage the use of the Igbo
language in their homes, as a major means of
communication with their offspring, to save the
language from dying.
The initiator and sponsor of the carnival said that
the objective of the yearly event was to provide a
platform for the transmission of Igbo culture from
one generation to another, among others.
He said that the theme of this year’s carnival: ‘’Ibu
anyi danda’’ (meaning ‘’resilience and the
indomitable spirit’’) of Ndigbo, underscored the
numerous challenges and struggles faced by the
Igbo man.
Ibe noted that God had always rewarded the Igbo
man with huge success in his vocations and
determination to succeed in life.
The Chancellor explained that the ceremony was
organised as ‘’our contribution to the cultural
heritage of mankind‘’.
He described the celebration of a people’s culture
as ‘’the celebration of their history, civilisation and
the totality of their way of life’’.
The lecture on the theme was delivered by a
renowned author and publisher, Mr Chinedum
Ofomata.
Highlights of the ceremony included cultural dances
by various dance groups from 16 states of the
federation.
Different kinds of masquerades, including ‘’Ijele’’
and ‘’Atu’’ from Anambra, took turns to perform at
the event, which attracted a large crowd from within
and outside the country. (NAN)

Banker explains why she nearly severed her hubby's penis with knife

Banker explains why she nearly
severed her hubby's penis with knife
Some days ago you read about a pregnant banker
who sliced her husband's penis during a fight at
their home in Surulere on December 16th. (If you
missed it, read HERE )
31 year old Bimbo Danju has explained why she
did it. She told Saturday Punch...
“Please, kindly judge this by yourself. As a
pregnant woman, will I willingly attempt to
cut off my husband’s penis? I ordinarily
would not have said anything. I did not
realise this will escalate to this stage. The
case is being handled by my lawyer at the
moment.
“My husband is not a hot-tempered man but
he gets angry once in a while. He lied that he
washes my clothes. He only did that once or
twice when I was ill. We had a disagreement
that day and he beat me up. My mother
came to the house and took away our son.
“Without telling anybody, I went to my
hospital and was treated. I did not tell him.
But when I got home, he continued to harass
me. He said I must ensure his son was
returned to the house. Continue...
“I was so tired and I went to sleep. But in the
middle of the night, he woke me up and asked me
again to produce his son. We started fighting and
he was beating me. In order to escape his beating,
I had to hold his penis. I wanted him to leave me
alone. I held on to it until I had a chance to
escape.”
“Please ask him, which certificate is he even
talking about? When I married my husband, he told
me he graduated from the Ogun State University,
Ago-Iwoye, but that he had an accident some time
ago, in which his certificates were burnt,” she
said.
“When I married him, he did not have a job. He
said he was working on a CD and all the money I
made, I spent on him.”
Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, her husband told
a different story.
He said, “My pastor had advised me against
marrying her because of an encounter he had with
her. Before we got married, in a meeting with
Bimbo, my pastor said he asked her about her
past and my wife said, ‘How dare you!’
“Of course, I did not believe my pastor at the time
because I was in love. But now, I rue the day I met
that woman.”
Lekan alleged that his wife had been behaving
strangely since he lost his job. He stated that he
had done everything he could to ensure that she
remained happy.
“I wash her clothes including her underwear. Even
without a job, I ensure that the proceeds of my
gospel music CD are used to take care of her and
our son,” he said.
The apartment Lekan shared with his wife is a
mini-flat. Asked who paid for the apartment, the
man said the house belonged to his father.
According to him, he was living in a rented
apartment in Ikorodu before relocating to his
father’s house in Surulere so that it would be
easier for his wife to get to work.
Lekan explained that Bimbo was a good woman at
the time.
He said, “I married her legally. We did a church
wedding, went to court and did the traditional
wedding. But when I lost my job, I realised that
after a little disagreement, she would rain abuses
on me and my family.
“She would sometimes destroy things in the
house. There was a time we had a disagreement
and she chased me down the street with a stick.
During another disagreement, she took my HND
certificate to the end of the street and dropped it
beside a gate. Neighbours had to plead with her to
bring it back.”
He narrated to Saturday PUNCH how his wife
attacked him.
“That fateful day, I was washing my wife’s
clothes. She reminded me that she needed some
money for foodstuffs and I told her that God would
provide for us. Later, she came out of the house
and said she had eaten noodles and had fed our
son.
“When I finished with the clothes, I was so tired
because the clothes were many. I ate the leftover
of her noodles. There were about three-spoonfuls
left.”
Lekan alleged that that did not go down well with
his wife who said she still wanted to eat the
leftover.
He said he had to go to the street to buy bread for
her since she said she was still hungry.
He further explained that he had to go out shortly
after to get some money from a salesman who
handles his CD sales.
“I came home and informed my wife that I got
some money from my CD. She told me that she
would like to eat wheat and white soup which I
usually buy for her from a restaurant. I bought that
for her,” he said.
By that time, Lekan said the only thing he had
eaten that day was the leftover noodles. He said
the remaining money from the CD sales had been
used to buy things needed in the house.
But his elder sister who had a shop nearby was to
later give him N500 when she noticed that he did
not look like he was feeling well.
“I went out to buy rice and when I came in and
she saw me eating that, she flared up. She said I
lied to her that I had no money. She was shouting
but I pleaded with her to calm down so that my
people around would not hear. She replied that it
would not be well with the people. She abused my
relations and parents.
“The following day, a Sunday, I swallowed my
pride. I woke up and asked which clothes she
would like to wear to church so that I could iron it
with mine. When she did not answer, I left for
church but came back after the workers’ meeting.
“I got home and saw her preparing jollof rice but I
went out to buy N60 bread and N40 beans. Trouble
started again when she saw me eating that. She
said I refused to give her money but I was buying
food to eat. She said, ‘Before I say anything now,
you will go and complain to your useless family.’
That was when I told her that it was her whole
family that was useless. Had I known, I would have
kept quiet. She took the plate of beans and poured
it on my head.”
But Lekan said even though many men would have
pummelled such a woman, he feared he might kill
her in anger. The matter died down, or so it
seemed.
Around 2am, Lekan said he received a sudden and
painful knock that woke him up from sleep and
realised that it was from his wife.
“I knew she had decided to start her trouble again.
But I did not in my wildest imagination think that
she could do what she did next.
“Before I realised what she was doing, I felt a
sharp pain in my manhood. I touched it and blood
was gushing out. I screamed and my immediate
thought was, ‘Is this the way I would die?’”
Lekan pointed to a kitchen knife in a corner of his
room. He said it was the weapon his wife used.
The wound inflicted on Lekan’s manhood was deep
but it had been stitched after he was rushed to the
hospital by neighbours.
Lekan said he is not pressing charges against his
wife.

Malawi President Joyce Banda left her country
today on a South Africa Airways flight to Lagos,
to begin a three-day private visit to Nigeria.
Interestingly, the official came to visit neither
President Goodluck Jonathan nor the First
Lady Patience Jonathan.
Mrs. Banda is heading to Lagos , where she
will be staying for 3 days as the VIP guest at
Pastor TB Joshua’ s Synagogue of All Nations,
to receive prayers for herself and her small
country.
At the departure ceremony in Lilongwe she
said she wanted to use the time to reflect on
2013 and and what lies ahead in 2014. Mrs .
It would be recalled that Joynce Banda is due
to face a general election in May 2014.
According to her words, she has been coming
to Nigeria for prayers in the last 5 years , and
this visit is normal.
“Some of you may be aware that I go for
prayers in Nigeria. This year I also decided to
take a three- day holiday for prayers ,” she
said . She calls TB Joshua her spiritual father.
She was seen off at the airport by VP Khumbo
Kachali . And she is expected back in Malawi
on New Year’s Eve.
President Banda’s ascendancy to power is
said to be connected to the prophecy of the TB
Joshua who was said to have predicted the
death of former Malawi President Bingu wa
Mutharika.
President Banda had visited Nigeria more than
once before she ascended the presidency.
TB Joshua’ s Synagogue has been a favourite
destination of some African leaders, including
the late Professor Atta Mills of Ghana.

Survives Road Accident
Press Statement from Edo State Government
Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole survived
a motor accident at Ewu Village along the
ever-busy Benin-Auchi road in Edo State at
about 9.45am Saturday, 28th December
2013 on his way back to Benin City from his
Iyamho Village. The incident occurred at
about 9.45am at Ewu, in Edo Central
Senatorial District, when a Peugeot J5 Bus
filled with tomatoes and plantains apparently
lost control and rammed into the Governor’s
Flag Car from the opposite direction before
swerving into a roadside ditch.
Three vehicles in the Governor’s convoy
were in front of the Governor’s Flag Car and
had passed the Peugeot J5 Bus before it [J5

car, which had the Governor, his Aide-De-
Camp [ADC] and his Driver as occupants.
The Governor’s Car was badly affected but
both occupants of the Peugeot J5 Bus and
that of the Governor’s sustained no injuries.
The Peugeot J5 Bus was following a truck that
was descending the Ewu Slope when it suddenly
veered off into the Governor’s lane from the
opposite direction and directly impacted on the
Governor’s vehicle, apparently because of brake
failure. The good story is that nobody sustained
injuries in both vehicles. The Comrade Governor is
hale and hearty, his ADC and other occupants of
the Peugeot J5 are also in good condition.
The incident has been reported to the Divisional
Police Station at Ewu for further investigation. This
is to assure all good people of Edo State that there

From FEMEN's Facebook page:
" After the protest the preaching Archbishop

Lagos NSCDC arrests 150 vandals in 10 months

Lagos NSCDC arrests 150 vandals in 10
months
on december 27, 2013 at 7:41 pm in news
By Bose Adelaja
Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps NSCDC,
Lagos State Command, has said no fewer than 150
suspected vandals were arrested in the state within
the past 10 months just as he urged Lagosians to
report any act of vandalisation of government
property during the Yuletide period.
Giving the account of his 10 months stewardship in
Lagos, the State Commandant Adesuyi clement,
also said the suspects were involved in
vandalisation of some critical government
infrastructures such as petroleum pipelines,
electrical and telecommunication facilities.
According to him, some of the suspects have been
prosecuted while others are still under investigation
as the vandalised products recovered from them
were handed over to appropriate authorities.
Also, the Commandant said about 50 private guards
companies were sealed within this period as they
were discovered to be operating illegally within the
metropolis. ‘’The Command has equally sealed over
ten companies who defaulted in paying their annual
renewal dues,’’
As regards disaster management, he said the
Command which is the emergency response team,
has partnered with other agencies such as National
Emergency Management Authority NEMA and Lagos
State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA in
the management of disaster scenes.
The peace and conflict resolution unit he said, has
handled over 150 cases ranging from landlord/
tenant conflict, marital conflict, breach of public
peace, land disputes, relationship disputes, cases of
assault, monetary conflict and child abuse. Out of
these cases, over 80 have been resolved while the
rest are still in progress.
‘’The command has deployed 2000 officers to
various strategic locations within the metropolis to
ensure adequate security during the Yuletide.
Adequate security reporting and grassroots
intelligence gathering by this unit has assisted the
Lagos State government in checkmating the
nefarious activities of some terrorist organisations
like ‘Boko Haram’ across the state. The corps in
collaborations with other security agencies recently
tracked down some ‘Boko Haram’ members who
were at the verge of causing mayhem to
Lagosians,’’ he added.

What porno does for your brain

s*x
addiction,
especially
when
fueled by
internet
Indecency,
has been
likened to
crack cocaine or heroin addiction, only much worse.
It allows its victims no respite.
It is a sickness of the soul that drives many to
suicide, transforming its worst sufferers, like Ted
Bundy and Gary Bishop, into serial killers
The striking similarity between heavenly feeling and
the heroin rush was confirmed in 2003 when Dutch
scientist Gert Holstege announced in a press
release relating to his research that brain scans of
heavenly feeling resembled brain scans of shooting
heroin. Laboratory rats know all about this, as a
famous experiment in the 1950s by James Olds
and Peter Milner conclusively demonstrated.
1. UNDERSTANDING BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION
Rats go into a veritable frenzy pressing levers (in
Skinner boxes) in order to give themselves powerful
pleasurable sensations, even if it means depriving
themselves of food and life. “Some rats,” we are
told, “would self-stimulate as often as 2000 times
per hour for 24 hours, to the exclusion of all other
activities. They had to be unhooked from the
apparatus to prevent death by self-starvation.
Pressing that lever became their entire world.”
In a subsequent related experiment involving
humans, a woman suffering from severe pain was
allowed to stimulate the pleasure centers of her
brain by turning an amplitude dial: so much so that
she developed a chronic ulceration at her fingertip.
She became so addicted to Intimate self-stimulation
that she had to beg her family to limit her access to
the stimulator.
2. Indecency ADDICTION COMPARED TO HEROIN
OR CRACK COCAINE ADDICTION
Columbia university neurologist Dr Norman Doidge,
in his book The Brain That Changes Itself, describes
how Indecency causes rewiring of the neural
circuits. He notes that in a study of men viewing
internet Indecency, the men looked “uncannily” like
rats pushing the levers in experimental Skinner
boxes. “Like the addicted rats,” Dr Doidge points
out, “the men were desperately seeking their next
fix, clicking the mouse just as the rats pushed the
lever.”
All addictions, Dr Dodge tells goes on to tell us,
cause “lifelong, neuroplastic changes in the brain.”
This includes Indecency addiction:
Dopamine is also involved in plastic change. The
same surge of dopamine that thrills us also
consolidates neuronal connections. An important
link with Indecency is that dopamine is also
released in intimate excitement, increasing the s*x
drive in both sexes, facilitating heavenly feeling, and
activating the brain’s pleasure centers. Hence the
addictive power of Indecency.
The men at their computers looking at Indecency
were uncannily like the rats in the cages of the NIH,
pressing the bar to get a shot of dopamine or its
equivalent. Though they didn’t know it, they had
been seduced into P0*nographic training sessions
that met all the conditions required for plastic
change of brain maps. Since neurons that fire
together wire together, these men got massive
amounts of practice wiring these images into the
pleasure centers of the brain, with the rapt attention
necessary for plastic change.
They imagined these images when away from their
computers, or while having s*x with their
girlfriends, reinforcing them. Each time they felt
intimate excitement and had an heavenly feeling
when they masturbated, a “spritz of dopamine,” the
reward neurotransmitter, consolidated the
connections made in the brain during the sessions.
(See here)
It is in this way that Indecency becomes a serious
addiction, comparable to heroin or crack cocaine
addiction, and begins its slow and deadly assault on
the brain. And as other research has shown, it
facilitates callousness in intimate relationships—s*x
completely divorced from love and an interest in
family and children.
3. Indecency AND BRAIN DAMAGE: IS THERE A
LINK?
Recent research has shown that P0*nographic
images become permanently embedded in the
brain, releasing large amounts of naturally occurring
chemicals into the bloodstream: e.g., dopamine,
epinephrine, oxytocin, serotonin, vasopressin,
prolactin, and enkephalins or endogenous opiods,
i.e., the brain’s own endorphins. People who view
Indecency obsessively become literally intoxicated:
drunk with an overdose of psychotropic chemicals.
These mind-altering substances are now known as
erototoxins, a relatively recent neologism meaning
“s*x poisons”. This poison-bearing Indecency, it
has been shown in recent laboratory tests, “actually
alters brain chemistry” and will in time produce
brain damage.
Just as alcohol in large quantities consumed over a
long period will damage the liver and kidneys, and
just as long-term tobacco addiction will adversely
affect the lungs and cardiovascular system, so
highly charged Intimate imagery accompanied by
compulsive self-service can eventually, it is
argued, lead to chemico-biological brain damage.
This will of course be strenuously denied by the
self-service Lobby, but the claim has nevertheless
been made by responsible medical researchers.
Dr. Gary Lynch, a neuroscientist at the University of
California at Irvine, in discussing the effect that a
single highly Intimate image can have on the brain,
points out ominously: “What we are saying here is
that an event which lasts half a second [image
imprint], within five to ten minutes has produced a
structural change that is in some ways as profound
as the structural changes one sees in [brain]
damage.”
4. Indecency ADDICTION AND FRONTAL LOBE
SYNDROME
It seems that frontal lobe damage, caused by long-
term Indecency addiction and the compulsive self-
service that accompanies it, will give rise to a
constellation of behaviors called “frontal lobe
syndrome”. These include four main behavior
patterns: (1) Impulsive behavior with little regard to
consequences. (2) Compulsive behavior, often
leading to total loss of control. (3) Emotionally labile
behavior, i.e., sudden and unpredictable mood
swings. (4) Impaired judgment, leading to
disastrous decision making.
All these conditions, it is now clear, are caused by
frontal lobe damage. Though they can be produced
instantaneously by a car crash or other serious
trauma to the brain, they can also occur as a
gradual process by the habit of compulsive self-
service to Indecency over a long period of time.
“Nemo repente fuit turpissimus,” the Roman satirist
Juvenal noted long ago. “No one became extremely
wicked all at once.” It happens by slow degrees,
step by painful step. Sow an act, and you reap a
habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a
character, and you reap a destiny. Whoever said
that was certainly on to something. Dr. Victor Cline,
possibly the world’s foremost expert on s*x
addiction, has this to say on Indecency and
compulsive self-service in his classic essay
Indecency’s Effects on Adult and Child:
In my experience as a intimate therapist, any
individual who regularly self services to Indecency
is at risk of becoming, in time, a intimate addict, as
well as conditioning himself into having a intimate
deviancy.
A frequent side effect is that it also dramatically
reduces their capacity to love. Their intimate side
becomes in a sense dehumanized. Many of them
develop an “alien ego state” (or dark side), whose
core is antisocial lust devoid of most values.
In time, the “high” obtained from self-servicing to
Indecency becomes more important than real life
relationships. It has been commonly thought by
health educators that self-service has negligible
consequences, but one exception would appear to
be in the area of repeatedly self-servicing to
deviant P0*nographic imagery which risks (via
conditioning) the acquiring of intimate addictions
and/or other intimate pathology.
It makes no difference if one is an eminent
physician, attorney, minister, athlete, corporate
executive, college president, unskilled laborer, or an
average 15-year-old boy. All can be conditioned
into deviancy.
The process of masturbatory conditioning is
inexorable and does not spontaneously remiss. The
course of this illness may be slow and is nearly
always hidden from view. It is usually a secret part
of the man’s life, and like a cancer, it keeps growing
and spreading. It rarely ever reverses itself, and it
is also very difficult to treat and heal.
5. A Indecency ADDICTION CASE HISTORY
Before we go any further, it is necessary to
convince the reader that Indecency addiction is
indeed a serious problem—in fact, an epidemic
unprecedented in human history.
Indecency is no longer the relatively mild
aphrodisiac it used to be in the Summer of Love,
1967, when the intimate Revolution first began to
take off. With the advent of the internet and the
advance in audiovisual communications, its lethality
has increased exponentially. Future advances in the
area of holographic images and reality drugs
threaten to make Indecency so irresistible to future
generations that ordinary s*x as we know it will
pale into insignificance and fail to exercise its
customary charms. Autoer*ticism will then reign
supreme; and the zombie s*x addict, dead-eyed
and drooling with unquenchable lust, will inherit the
earth and turn it into a vast masturbatorium.
This is one vision of the s*x dystopia to come: a
science fiction nightmare that has every chance of
being realized. This is a world in which only the
sexually fit will survive as the masters, those
schooled to self-discipline and impulse control. The
weak-willed and degenerate will not necessarily die
out. They will simply sink into the amorphous
lumpenproletariat as permanent slaves.
6. COCAINE AND METHAMPHETAMINE: THEIR
ROLE IN Indecency ADDICTION
Particular drugs potentiate s*x. This is well known
to anyone who has ever taken drugs. Under the
influence of the drug, the intensity of the s*x
experience can be increased tenfold: becoming
either sacred or satanic, divine or demonic,
depending on one’s state of mind, but always
piquant, frenzied, and quasi-mystical. Drug
addiction and s*x addiction therefore often go
together, intensifying each other and making the
s*x junkie’s dual addiction an exquisite pleasure
indistinguishable from a stabbing pain.
Two of the most potent aphrodisiacs in use today
are cocaine and methamphetamine. The easy
availability of these drugs nowadays has increased
not only the number of s*x addicts in society but
also the intensity of their addiction. It will be found
that both cocaine and methamphetamine are used
extensively in combination with Indecency. The
result is compulsive self-service on an epic scale,
such as few societies in the past have ever known.
Indeed, ours is the first civilization in history to
make self-service a competitive sport.
For centuries, cocaine has been known for its
potent aphrodisiacal properties. In fact, one of the
reasons people take cocaine it is to get a intimate
“super high”. In the early 1900s, cocaine gained
notoriety for its ability to induce “intimate frenzy”
and “uncontrollable lust” in the stereotypical “drugs
fiend”. Today, in San Francisco and other big cities,
cocaine is openly sold in gay bathhouses where it
leads to suicidal unprotected s*x:
7. CONCLUSION
That Indecency damages the character, weakens
the will, and produces intimate deviance in those it
infects, can no longer be doubted. That it can even,
under the influence of drugs such as cocaine,
occasionally turn heterosexuals into homosexuals,
is an even more sinister development.
That long-term Indecency use, accompanied by
compulsive self-service, actually causes structural
changes in the brain is now beyond dispute.
Whether this amounts to “brain damage” in the
classic sense is a contentious issue and will be
hotly denied by the self-service Lobby and all those
who believe, erroneously, that self-service is a
stress reliever and a cure for depression.
Indecency addiction and its invariable
accompaniment, compulsive self-service, are in
fact stress increasers. They are often found as
major symptoms in obsessive-compulsive
disorders. Far from relieving depression, they
intensify it. Indeed, they are all too often the
underlying cause of the depression in that they
generate a huge loss of self-esteem. These are
truisms, patently obvious to all except the
merchants of lies.
Meanwhile, there is little doubt that the virulent s*x
epidemic we witness all around us is a deliberately
planned s*x psyop. This is what governments want.
The Puppet Masters who pull the hidden strings of
our Western regimes, all masquerading as
democracies, have managed to manufacture
exactly what we see when we look around us:
widespread neurosis, mass misery, the collapse of
moral values, Christianity in ruins, and the coarse
brutalization of the common man.
No need for gulags for those who consent to their
own chains.

My Husband Is Not A Religious Fanatic ? Mrs. Aregbesola Defends Osun Governor

Speaking
with
reporters
at the
Government
House,
Osogbo on
Thursday,
Osun
state’s First Lady, Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola
debunked the claim in some quarters that Governor
Aregbesola is a religious fanatic.
According to her, Governor Aregbesola loves and
cherishes all religions equally. Osun First Lady
urged those calling her husband a fundamentalist to
stop playing politics with the serious issue of
governance.
What is more, she denied insinuations that the
Governor is high handed in the handling of the
affairs of the state, adding that those making the
claim are enemies of the present administration in
the state.
Mrs. Aregbesola said that her husband believes in
peace and treats people equally regardless of their
religious belief. Even though Governor Aregbesola
is a committed Muslim, he believes in God and
allows people, including family members to practise
the religion they choose to, she said.
The wife also described the Governor as a simple
and nice person with a large heart, noting that he
believes in himself and gives everyone that comes
his way the opportunity to develop. According to
her, Aregbesola built a church in the Government
House in Lagos when he was the Commissioner for
Works and Infrastructure in the state.
"I am surprised that people are now giving my
husband the names he doesn’t bear. He is a very
tolerant person who believes in God regardless of
the religion through which people call on him.
Today, two of his sisters are married to Christians
and they are doing well as Christians. We have
people living with us till today who are Christians.
These people go to church from our house and they
also organize Christian prayers at home here where
my husband also participate actively, " Mrs
Aregbesola stated.

UNBELIEVABLE: How This Banker Withdrew N50m From Customers' Accounts

The
Special
Fraud
Unit, Ikoyi,
Lagos
State, has
arrested
an
account
officer with Guaranty Trust Homes, Adeola
Olokojobi, in connection with a N50m fraud at the
financial institution.
Prior to his arrest, Olokojobi was said to be working
at the GT Homes, Saka Tinubu branch, Victoria
Island.
It was revealed that the SFU had received a petition
in October 2013, from a customer of the branch
where Olokojobi worked. The customer had alleged
that Olokojobi, who was his account officer, had
“not been forthcoming with his account balances.”
A statement by the SFU Commissioner of Police, Mr.
Tunde Ogunsakin, said, “The petitioner also alleged
that the balance given to him was at variance with
his actual balance in the account.
“An internal investigation conducted by GT Homes
into the account revealed that Olokojobi in April
2013, forged an instruction, transferring N15m from
the petitioner’s account, to an unknown account.
“The bank also discovered other various fraudulent
withdrawals made by the account officer from other
customers’ accounts in his care through fake
transfer instructions. It amounted to over N50m.
“He said the funds were used to finance his political
campaign, a proposed pure water company and
purchase of an uncompleted building at Sango-Ota,
Ogun State.
“Olokojobi in his confessional statement said he
had fraudulently withdrawn monies amounting to
N50,640,748 from the account of the customers by
transferring funds into the accounts of fictitious
customers and subsequently withdrawing same.”
A banking and finance graduate, Olokojobi told
PUNCH Metro that he joined GT Homes in 2009.
He, however, denied that he had fraudulently
transferred over N50m, insisting that instead, it was
N27m.
He said, “I didn’t have to forge the instructions from
GT homes customers. All I did was manipulate
them. What happens is that they usually send
instructions to the account officers by email,
requesting that some money be transferred to an
account of their choice. All I simply do is add
another million or two to the sum the customer
requested.
“It went unnoticed all this while because after using
the money to do some business transactions, I
always paid it back. I was into several businesses; I
would buy land and resell for profit.
“I got into trouble with this one because I withdrew
N15m at once from a customer’s account; I didn’t
take it bit by bit, but I meant to pay it back. In fact, I
had already started doing so before I was caught
and arrested. But the police are not right in saying
that the money I had withdrawn from customers
amounted to N50m; it is N27m.”
Ogunsakin, however, said the suspect would soon
be charged to court, where he could defend himself.

CAN Declares Friday a Day of Fasting and Prayers

UMBRELLA
body of
Christians
in the
country,
the
Christian
Association
of Nigeria,
CAN, has declared Friday a day of fasting and
prayers for the security of Nigeria as citizens
prepare for the new year. Making the declaration
yesterday, National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo
Oritsejafor said the prayer had become necessary
because it was obvious certain forces were
determined to truncate the destiny of the nation.
The cleric explained that in the life of the nation,
there are evil forces raging and threatening the
corporate existence of Nigeria.
He urged Nigerians, irrespective of their religious or
ethnic differences to fast and pray for God to
destroy all those who are bent on truncating the
destiny of Nigeria.

By FESTUS AHON
UGHELLI— A group, Niger Delta for Peaceful,
Credible and Visionary Leadership, has berated the
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu
Tambuwal, for allegedly accusing President
Goodluck Jonathan of aiding corruption in the
country.
National President of the group, King Prebor (Snr),
who said this while chatting with newsmen,
described the comment as hypocritical and self-
serving, adding that President Goodluck Jonathan
was doing well in his crusade against corruption.
He said: “It is the duty of every Nigerian to wage
war against corruption and corrupt practices. The
President alone cannot fight corruption.
“I, therefore, urge all those in government to
declare a state of emergency on corruption from
the Presidency to the state down to the local
government governments.”

Nyako blasts Gulak, Okupe; says defection is final

Nyako blasts Gulak, Okupe; says
defection is final
on december 27, 2013 at 4:50 am in news
Gov. Nyako
BY Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State said,
yesterday, that his defection to All Progressives
Congress, APC, was final and that there was nothing
the Pre-sidency could do to truncate it.
The
governor, who spoke through his Director of Press
and Public Affairs, Mr. Ahmad Sajoh, accused two
aides of President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak
and Doyin Okupe of making inflam-matory
statements against him and warned them to steer
clear the affairs of his state.
The two aides of the President were said to have
warned the governor of the consequences of
defecting to APC and threatened to use the courts to
ensure that Nyako was dealt with.
But Nyako said both men displayed a high level of
ignorance about the political situation in his state
and that it tended to cast aspersion on the highest
office in the land because of their unbridled tongues.
Nyako said: “The good thing about Gulak’s
statement is that he displayed so much ignorance
about Adamawa State in the paucity of his
knowledge. When you have an ignorant opponent,
you are as good as having no opponent at all.
“How could a person like Gulak, who was
mentioning ethnic groups in Adamawa State, claim
that Gella my home town and Pakka Wilberforce,
Juta’s home town are also ethnic groups in
Adamawa State?
“How could such an ill-informed person pose any
threat politically? He does not even know the terrain
or the people he is talking of.
“The comfort of his political exile in Abuja and the
spoils of his office made it difficult for him to
appreciate the ethnic composition of his home state.
How then does he intend to mobilise them for
Jonathan’s 2015 project? Well, we wait to see.
“It is only by the misfortune of a captive Presidency
that a man who lost dismally in an election in the
FCT, and scored only two votes in the nomination
process in his home state will emerge the nation’s
adviser on politics.
“What politics does he know if he cannot advise
himself to make any political impact?
“Gulak cannot win even his unit in Gulak, Madagali
Local Government Area. Yet he is the one planning
how a President will emerge in 2015.
“And if he does not know the ethnic configuration of
Adamawa his home state, how will he work out the
political configuration of Nigeria as a nation?”
On Okupe, Nyako said it was unfortunate for
Jonathan to engage him as one of his media
advisers, since he is not in touch with the current
realities in Adamawa and Nigeria.
The governor said: “Okupe is as empty as his
boastful words, totally devoid of any substance or
values. It is unfortunate that people like Doyin
Okupe could be brought to Abuja from Lagos, where
they have lost all relevance, for the sole purpose of
insulting others who are seen as enemies of a
Presidency that has been blinded from the realities
on the political landscape.
“One could easily see the negative impact of the
likes of Gulak and Okupe at the corridors of power
in Nigeria. In the past they were playing the role of
court jesters, who were amusing the President.
“Today, they are playing a more negative and
dangerous role of ‘hate mongers’, raining insults on
real or imagined enemies, and masking all truth and
reality from the President, turning the Presidency
into an instrument of tyranny.”
