An open letter to Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU)- Adewale Olumide a student of Management and Accounting OAU

THE GREATEST MISTAKE ASUU MADE
Candid, ASUU made the greatest mistake of their life
and we student are bearing the consequences.
During the agreement, ASUU believes that trust is the
only thing that driven democracy. They enter into an
agreement without proper documentation. Indeed, I
called this agreement a mere promise. ASUU should
stop calling it an agreement but a mere promise from
the federal government. How can trust driven
democracy? If trust is capable of driven democracy
then there was no substance for establishment of
law. If I promise you anything and later I don’t have
capacity to fulfil it who can arrest me for it, but if it is
an agreement which is properly documented, then I
am under obligation to fulfil my own side of the
agreement.
Such a professional body disappointed an ordinary
Nigeria for entering into a mere agreement, they
forget that in Nigeria there is no sincerity in
government.
Law is the hub upon which the activities of
democracy revolves. And not trust. If ASUU is the
fed. Govt. and Fed. Govt. put itself in ASUU’s shoes,
the same thing will definitely happens. Take for
instance the former minister of education. Before she
was relieve of her duty she pleaded for fed. Govt.,
now that she is relieved, she has joined the solidarity
song of ASUU, paradox. Man is an illusion of a
glamorous attitude where only fools judge him by his
appearance.
The mistake has been made. No one is above
mistake and indeed no one is a paragon of
knowledge. When two elephant fight the grasses
suffer. Two wrong can not make a right. Fed. Govt.
disagree to be subdue by the influence of ASUU and
ASUU remains adamant on it demand, while the
students are suffering as a result of this.
We students believes in the justification of your
demand for the betterment and quality education in
Nigeria.
Another mistake that ASUU made is, when making
the agreement on a matter that touches public life and
future of our dear country, the agreement was not
well publicize and seems like a political intrigue to the
society when govt. fails to honour it. An agreement
made on behalf of students which they were not
aware. The greatest mistake that ASUU made is that
the agreement is not legally binding. There was no
legal force. It is just a gentleman’s agreement and
such agreement takes the intervention of God to be
honoured.
These are simple suggestion and advice to the govt.
and ASUU;
1 Govt. should please honour this promise
2 ASUU should please re-enter into a legally binding
agreement with the fed govt.
3 ASUU should seek another means of industrial
action to reiterate their demand rather than taken us
hostage
Our destiny is in our hands.
